Virgil Clip!

Thanks so much for the clip. I really didn't know Virgil's playing so this was a treat!
Who are Virgil's influences?

I know a number of guys over the years have influenced Virgil so it is easier to point them as influences in general than at a specific point in time in Virgil's time-line(who at that exact moment is effecting his playing and thinking) I know that a very early influence in a rock context was Ian Paice, because Ian had such a unique style of playing in that context. Then he mentions Carl Palmer and Bruford as being influences at a young age in the Prog context. He was really moved by Tony and Cobham in the early fusion era then Gadd was a BIG influence on him. Narada Michael was a big influence, not knowing how long that lasted. He studied with Philly "Joe" Jones for quite awhile and he was a major influence on him, I know that Philly had high praise for Virgil.

And I know that he has great admiration for Vinnie and Dave, also Dennis along with being good friends with them. And I know he digs certain aspects of Marco's and Lang's playing, also good "Mates" to Virgil. It is quite funny because all three of those guy's,Vinnie Dave and Dennis were singing Virgil's praises years before anyone really knew about him. You can go back to 1994 and Dave is RAVING! about this Australian guy who is insane doing things no one else can do, and back then he said Virgil was one of his absolute faves. Here just last year Vinnie was quoted as saying he loves going to watch Virgil at the Potato because Virgil always kick's his Butt! in the good sense of course and should not forget Simon Phillips who is a good mate of Virgil's, and they happen to have great admiration for one another. Simon said Virgil is without a doubt the most advanced drummer playing today.

What is cool is to see these Giants have the comroderie they do have and praise eachother at the drop of a hat and knowing that it is not jibberish but real sincere praise, a good influence for all of us.

Wow, what a great clip!

Can anyone explain the sub-division Virgil is doing that starts around 0:14 and kicks into high gear around 0:17? I know he's changing it up, but I can't figure it out. That time modulation is just crazy.

anyways aside from the terrible quality and audio(sorry guys), the clip is great, and IMO it shows that there is much more to Virgil than just "feet"(which seems to be what most people are attracted to)...But the guy has killer hands, especially on the Ultimate Drummers Weekend....

Danny, they're half note triplets, just follow the hi-hat at 0:17. Then he switches to a "binary" division, hitting the snare every two trilpet notes (I hope I'm explaining this correctly, english is not my native language). Then I guess he just solos taking the triplet notes as a reference instead of the quarter note.
